Kitty Purr is a monthly meetup that is all about mixing poetry with visual art while making new friends in a relaxed and friendly safespace. It’s a chance to learn, explore, and have fun while trying out new things.

Inspired by the vintage ‘Poesie album’ this visual poetry project started in search of giving new meaning to poetry albums. Now it’s up to you to decide what it's supposed to be!

With every monthly meetup, we want to inspire you with a program where we will explore visual art and poetry through literature, writing and drawing. Every night will have an in-depth workshop with a special theme and guest artist.

Besides gaining new skills the goal is to create a safe space where we will exchange our 'Purry Pockets' to grow from each other's perspectives.

Purry Pocket
This little book will be your poetical canvas, for sharing and keeping all the new inspiring perspectives with your (new) friends.

You can either create your own "purry pocket" (for inspiration, check out the photos from the first meetup), bring a book yourself, or purchase a "purry pocket" during the meetups.

The Purry pockets are handmade and cost between 10 and 15 euro’s.

What is a poesie album?

Poesie album

The ‘Poesie album’ is traditionally a floral friendship book that used to be passed around among children. Friendship books have been around for ages, but the poetry has gradually disappeared as we grow older. Kitty Purr has drawn inspiration from this old tradition and aims to redefine poetry albums and combine them with visual art for adults in an inclusive manner.

Coming up:

December 4th - Experiment with cyanotype to bring your poetic vision into a visual work of art. Cyanotype is a fun photographic technique that allows you to use objects and transparencies to create stunning images in Prussian blue and white hues.

This Kitty Purr meetup we explored the space we are in and made visualart out of our secret collections.

September 4th - Engage in the awesomeness of language with guest artist Jimmy Rockx. Jimmy tought us how to set the tone to our own stories and the principles of spoken word. With the central theme ‘demolition and reconstruction’ we dived into the actuality.

October 9th - With guest artist by Ike van Vugt, we drew a creative persona, a character based on the emotions of our written words.

November 13th - It’s time to learn all about paper cutting and origami! Are you excited to learn all about cutting paper in beautiful shapes to convey your story? Be there on the 13th of November. The workshop will be led by Lisette Spee and Naveen Setty.

Kitty Purr is een maandelijkse bijeenkomst die draait om het combineren van poëzie met visuele kunst, terwijl je in een ontspannen en safe space nieuwe vrienden maakt. Het is een kans om te leren, te ontdekken en plezier te hebben terwijl je nieuwe dingen uitprobeert.

Geïnspireerd door het vintage 'Poesie album' begon dit visuele poëzieproject met de zoektocht om poëziealbums een nieuwe betekenis te geven. Nu is het aan jou om te bepalen wat het zou moeten zijn! Bij elke maandelijkse bijeenkomst willen we je inspireren met een programma waarin we visuele kunst en poëzie verkennen via literatuur, schrijven en tekenen. Elke avond bevat een diepgaande workshop met een speciaal thema en gast artiest.

Naast het ontwikkelen van nieuwe vaardigheden is het doel om een veilige ruimte te creëren waarin we onze 'Purry Pockets' uitwisselen om van elkaars perspectieven te groeien.

Purry Pocket :
Dit boekje wordt jouw poëtische canvas, om alle nieuwe inspirerende perspectieven met je (nieuwe) vrienden te delen en te bewaren.

Je kunt je eigen pocket maken, zelf een boekje meenemen of er één kopen tijdens de meetups.

Pay what you can: Tijdens deze meetups bepaal je zelf hoe veel je betaalt of dat je een contributie wil bijdragen op een andere manier.

Lucy Schreurs (Sittard, 1999) is a lens based artist, photographer and curator of events, projects and exhibitions. With their projects/curatorship and documentary photography they aim to create more safe spaces and visibility for everyone.

Ike van Vugt
Visual artist & creator

Ike van Vugt, also known as Kiwi.Prik on social media, is a visual artist and creator located in Tilburg.

Her main focus is illustration and tattooing based on her illustrations. She approaches her work with a playful and childlike expression, utilizing freehand linework and vibrant colors to spark joy.

Dear you,

I will be present, in body or in traces.

You will meet me in theatrical spaces, my playgrounds. There I investigate the
relation between desire, impulse, choice, you, me and the space we’re in. The
consequences of my actions, the traces I leave behind, are really important.

My presence still being there, hanging in the air, waiting until you will breathe it
in. I will leave my scarf on your coat stand, just so I can see you again.

When I’m not there, I see my work as a sculpture. The space will mainly be filled
with speech, text, (abstract) ceramic objects and my presence. I love tiny
objects, because they demand you to come close, and therefore create a
choreography for you. My playground will change over time, in a rehearsal like
way. The clash between desire, impulse and choice result in absurdist spaces

that are difficult to grasp.

I like to provoke, challenge and flirt with you.

Jimmy Rockx
Spoken word, rapp & writing

Is an adamant artist of words and language. His mission is: "to upgrade the image of language, whether spoken or written, from dusty and boring to 'cool and awesome'. " He does this by organizing Spoken First, a spoken word night. Rapping about night philosophy over silly beats in relatable self-mockery under the synonym 'Het is laat'.
And collaborates with artist Babette Bakermans to create comic books.

In Jimmy's own words, "My words are drenched in double entendres surrounded by vivid literary devices. Playing with words is the motto when writing—call me a language acrobat."

There have been two Kitty Purr meetups so far. What sets them apart is their small and welcoming nature, which creates a safe space for introverts and extroverts alike to come together in a cozy atmosphere and learn more about visual poetry.

Meetup #2 - Visual poetry & 'collections' with Roos Keetels

The evening began with a small introduction and a couple of writing exercises to overcome the initial obstacle one may face when starting out. Roos Keetels introduced the group to visual poetry and poetry in performance. Inviting the participants to think about the secret collections that they gather and carry with them daily.
The participants opened up their pockets and bags to uncover the things they have unconsciously collected. Reflecting in conversation on why they kept them and what drew them to these items.

With the items laid out before them, the participants were challenged to create a visual based on sense. A taste, a smell; crafting a piece of visual poetry to reside in their 'purry pockets'.

Meetup #1 Bookbinding

The first meetup of Kitty Purr took place on a cozy afternoon at the printmaking workshop Grafische Werkplaats RAAF.

Particpants were able to create their very own "Purry pocket," the first step into the book designed to hold poetry in it's many forms that is yet to be explored in the next meetups.
